We always think outside the box. As a certified eco-label business, it's not just the location, construction, and equipment that are designed to be as environmentally friendly as possible. Our team consistently focuses on careful resource use and reducing the ecological footprint in purchasing, cooking, and various other projects.

We cook with love and solar power. The flat and green roof of the magdas HEARTQUARTER is covered by solar panels from a powerful photovoltaic system (27.88 kWp - 54.1 kWp).
Sustainability was a key consideration in the construction of the kitchen in Vienna-Liesing. With 961 out of 1,000 possible points in the ÖGNB* sustainability certification, the building has earned the highest score among ÖGNB commercial projects. For example, heat recovery exhaust air systems ensure that the heat generated during cooking is used to warm the office and meeting rooms.
Instead of a large car park, a garden has been created on the site, which also hosts beehives. Employees also benefit from the excellent transport links provided by Vienna Liesing railway station, which is within walking distance. Those travelling by company car use an electric vehicle.
Since 2023, magdas ESSEN has also been awarded the Austrian Ecolabel. All sustainability measures were thoroughly examined in a certification process lasting several months. Along with the building and operations, the social enterprise impressed with its regional main supplier, regionally grown organic potatoes, cooperation with a nearby logistics partner, and optimised delivery routes. The company is continuously working on its own projects to further reduce its ecological footprint.

0kg of CO2 is emitted by magdas KÜCHE during the preparation of our dishes, due to the use of renewable energies.

Social Business Story
Stories like our pâtissier’s show that often all it takes is an opportunity. After fleeing from Palestine to Austria, he successfully completed his chef apprenticeship at magdas ESSEN in 2023. He then continued his career and gained experience in the patisserie of another restaurant. Returning to our team as a valuable specialist with a wealth of experience, he now ensures that our sweet treats meet the highest standards as a pastry chef. You can see him in the picture on the right.
